| John Coppock White's birth was recorded at Merriwa in 1841 to William & Margaret Coppock. as recorded elsewhere John was one of four older brothers to Susie White who married John Little in 1870.
At the age of sixteen John Coppock White journeyed to Lake Albacutya to work with his uncle John Coppock. John Coppock being an older brother of Margaret and Anne Coppock both of whom had married the White brothers. John Coppock had not married, and in his own right was a pioneer of grazing throughout Victoria long before it became the seperate state and was still part of N.S.W. He established properties at Lake Albacutya and as you can see from the map, as the crow flies, was not that far from James Little's holding at Yanac-a-Yanac. We have no way of knowing what inter-action eventuated with the two families, but obviously a courtship and eventual marriage in 1867 has taken place between John Coppock White and John Little's younger sister Agnes. From this it can only be concluded that John White's sister Susie must have been a regular visitor to Albacutya creating the subscequent relationship with John Little. I should follow up on a little of the history of John Coppock, who from all accounts was a quite remarkable man. From our book it has been reported that John Coppock originally ventured into what is now Victoria by bringing herds of sheep belonging to Captain McArthur from Camden to new pastures. The story goes he was assisted in this effort by several trusted convicts. For one reason or other John Coppock luckily missed the return voyage, for the boat carrying the convicts was wrecked of the coast of N.S.W. was lost with all hands. As I have found previously family history is not necessarily factual. To read an alternative report you may read the following: |
